Islamic practice and Dawah Circle (IPDC) is one of the largest Islamic organisations in Australia. It has been working for dawah, Islamic education and creating an environment for Islamic scholars. Over the last 2 decades, it established many mosques, Islamic educational institutions and Islamic centres to promote Islam as per the nation-building theme ‘Better Muslim and Better Australians’. However, to convey the true message of Islam, IPDC needs Islamic scholars that have lived in the Australian environment so they are able to relate to Australian Muslims and present Islam in a more preferable way. Due to the shortage of Australian born Imams, IPDC would like to take necessary steps and offer scholarships for this noble purpose.

The process of your child becoming an Imam

1. Full Time Hifz

Selected students must need to memorize the Quran Al Kareem when they are in primary school. If they cannot memorize the entire Quran, they should memorize minimum 5 Juz and other relevant Surah must be memorized. It also requires beautifying the recitation with Tajweed and getting the Ijazah, if possible. To get this qualification, it requires dedication and sacrifice for two to three years full time (home schooling) or three to five years part time. For full time Hifz, students need to have a home schooling permission from the relevant authority and then enrol into a full time Tahfiz madrasa.

2. Arabic Language

This is the second most important requirement that must be fulfilled when they are in high school. In the Australian context, it can be from any islamic school or a private institution. For example, if someone is completing his HSC from any Islamic Schools, it can cover 50% of the Arabic language requirement. However, an extra course under any Shaikh’s close supervision / under any institute is highly recommended with the intention of having university degree where the medium of instruction would be Arabic.

3. University Degree

After completing both conditions, the students needs to show his ultimate passion and dedication as well as the parent’s motivation to achieve the university degree and the title of ‘Alim’. It can be either from Al-Azhar University, Egypt, or from the Islamic University of Madinah, KSA or any other accredited university around the world. This proposal is to make the pathway easy for the parents as well as the students.
